Ideal for Secondary Teachers
Timetables, Segregated departments, Overloaded Curriculum, Teacher personalities, Department budgets are just some of the barriers facing secondary school teachers when looking to immerse themselves in the integration of currciulum areas, project based learning, problem based learning and student centred learning.
Our “7 Steps to STEAM Integration” workshops are interactive, thought provoking, hands on and collaborative which also incorporate the STEAM curriculum areas. After working with thousands of teachers across Australia, Practical PD has developed a process to assist teachers, head of learning areas and school leaders to successfully implement systems and procedures to foster integration between departments. Our teacher trained consultant explores the WHYs?, WHATs? and HOWs? focusing on the STEAM curriculum areas.
In the first session we explore WHY the governments both state and federally are placing a great focus on STEAM currciulum areas in the education environment and the need to have these areas integrated for better student outcomes. The session is thought provoking, collaborative, motivating and designed to develop the mindset to successfully build the foundations for integration. We derive our findings from government departments, key business decision makers, Sir Ken Robinson, Yung Zhao, Bureau of Statics, Productivity Commission, etc
This collaborative session allows teachers to learn from other participants and share their experiences while exploring many great STEAM tools which foster integration, problem based learning, project based learning and student centred learning for their students. We also walk through the 7 Step process which gives particpants a process to implement integration into the secondary school environment. There are so many amazing STEAM projects happening around the world which will completely transform our future such as, Autonomous Vehicles, Drones, 3D Printers, Windfarms, Solar Grids, Battery Clusters, Colonisation of other planets, Propolsive Landing Rockets. We explore how these could create the foundation for integration in the secondary setting using problem based learning, project based learning, student centred learning, system thinking, design thinking and computational thinking. This session will be hands on where particpants will actively participate in activities to experience the many factors at play when implementing something new.
The final session allows secondary teachers to collaborate and develop strategies for integration in their environment to achieve maximum impact and long term success. Strategies that will be derived from the foundation principles of :
Relevance Problem Solving Motivation Evaluation
Practical PD understands the importance of providing professional development that can have an immediate effect on student learning. Our consultant will work closely with participants during this session to ensure teachers have strategies and great confidence to ensure success when they get back to their school.
Your school leaders will love that participants take back to their environment a program that can be implemented immediately and benefit the students and other teaching staff.
