Our “STEM Success with Digital Technologies” workshops are interactive, thought provoking, hands on incorporating the STEM / STEAM subject areas which provide teachers with a great resource to take away and immediately implement into their education environment. The teachers create highly valuable practical tools to use themselves and demonstrate to other staff and the students so their educational environment is enriched. Our teacher trained consultant explores the WHYs?, WHATs? and HOWs? specifically customised to the participants needs and wants in 3 sessions. This workshop is designed for teachers at a basic or intermediate level of STEM, Digital and Design Technologies level of understanding and confidence or mentors who wish to gain tools to help them motivate other staff members.

Session 1:

Without a sound understanding of WHY STEM and the Digital Technologies Curriculum is so important for all teachers to incorporate into their classroom, teachers will struggle to have the confidence to deliver great outcomes. Practical PD spends this session exploring the relevance and importance in a collaborative, high participation and supportive environment. We look at the technologies that are rapidly changing every aspect of how we work, play and socialise. Through this exploration exercise the teachers gain invaluable knowledge to assist them work with their students to also understand WHY.

Session 2:

The Digital Technologies Curriculum provided to teachers can sometimes be overwhelming and complex when trying to establish an approach to meet the required objectives. Practical PD has taken much stress out of this process by exploring a range of strategies to support lesson plans. In this session we also explore the physical technologies around programming and coding individualised to suit the year level and subject area of the participants’ expertise while focusing on Creative Thinking, Computational Thinking, System Thinking, Design Thinking and Problem Solving. This collaborative session allows teachers to learn from other participants and share their experiences so the whole group can benefit and develop a specific program suitable for their students. An opportunity to play with coding and programming technologies while discussing and sharing with others builds great confidence while having fun.

Session 3:

The final session requires participants to use the knowledge and understands they have gained in the first 2 sessions to construct activities to take back to their school and implement immediately into their classroom. The lessons are structured around the:

  • Relevance(Why?)
  • MotivatingTools (What?)
  • Creative Thinking, Computational Thinking, System Thinking, Design Thinking and Problem Solving

Practical PD understands the importance of providing professional development that can have an immediate effect on student learning. Our consultant will work closely with participants during this session to ensure teachers have strategies and great confidence to ensure success when they get back to their school.

Your school leaders will love that participants take back to their environment a program that can be implemented immediately and benefit the students and other teaching staff.
