STEM Lesson Plan & Activities - EDISON ROBOT Year 5

Edison Lessons

Lesson 1: Introduction to Edison Robotics

  • Explore the functions and use maps and barcodes.

Lesson 2: Introduce Edublocks and explore transferring code from computer to Edison.

Lesson 3: Problem:

Mathematics: You must use an Edison Robot to draw mathematical problems for your peers to solve. Eg. Draw a track which another group would then need to measure. Groups would need to consider how they would measure (zigzag line drawn by Edison – string/informal units etc)

Art: You must use an Edison Robot to create a piece of abstract art.

Literacy: You must use an Edison Robot to create a story map which relates to a journey a character takes in a story.

  • Students will have access to Lego in order to construct a ‘gripping’ tool to hold the pencil.

Lesson 4: Design process (6 D Process).

Lesson 5: Construct gripping tool using the Lego.

Lesson 6: Combine with Edison to trial.

Lesson 7: Create and test design.

Lesson 8: Students must create their own lesson plans using their Edison and ‘gripping tool’. They must integrate another subject area and solve a problem.
